Sorry we havnt been able to update latelty, we have pretty much been riding, sleeping, and eating.

Last night we got a crappy motel in Bennington Vermont, making 39 states! Tonight we made it to Phelps NY. That was about 230 miles and I went the whole way on side roads. Ryan paid the toll, but I was trying to be cheap and so I paid with my time. We are camping now, and will likely be camping for the next few days, as long as the weather is good.

Tomorrow we will go to Niagara Falls, and hopefully we will have some cool pictures for you all then.

Miles Yestetday: 140
Miles today: 230
Total Miles: 13,538

Oh yea and there were a whole bunch of these all around Vermont and Upstate NY.

Fusion Community Church in Durham NH

Posted in Pre Trip on July 6th, 2009 at 11:50 pm by Nathanael

So we realized last night after setting up camp that the place we were headed the next day was not very far from where we were camping.  See instead of heading all the way into Portland Maine, we simply crossed the border, and found a campsite.  In fact we camped on the river seperating New Hampshire and Maine.  And since we didn’t go so far into Maine, our ride today from Maine to Durham NH was just under 10 miles.  Anyway, it all worked out pretty good cause we were able to catch up on some stuff.

In the afternoon we met up with Bryan Bessette from Fusion Community Church.  Right away we got along great.  The interview went well, and we talked a lot about church, Lord of the Rings, C.S. Lewis, and other random things.  The building itself is pretty cool, cause along with being the site for their church, and his office, it also has some other offices from parachurch organizations, and a floor just for student housing on top.  That is actually where we are staying tonight, in one of the dorm rooms.

After the interview we walked over to his house to have dinner with him and his wife Hannah, and their three kids.  Only one kid made it into the picture though.  They were great people, and it was very nice to hang out with them.

Eliot ME

We left Boston and head to Maine, but on the way we stopped in at Salem ME.  The witch hunt hysteria was so insane, and as I learned more about it while we there, I realized if there was truly any presence of evil spirits in Salem back in the 17th century, it was not in the accused, but in those that did the accusing.

This is an old “witch house” preserved by the historic society of Salem

From Salem we headed across the border into Maine, which has some absolutely beautiful views.

The Church of the Cross in Boston MA

Posted in Pre Trip on July 6th, 2009 at 10:36 am by Nathanael

We got to meet with Ben Rey (left) and Rev. Mark Booker (right) from The Church of the Cross the other day in downtown Boston.  It is a very new church, with an exciting passion for reaching their community.  I even met up with Ben and some of the other members of their church on the 4th of July.  It was cool because some people from their church live in this giant house that is an international house for around 20 people right in downtown Boston.  It is a neat ministry opportunity to people from all over the world.  They got to watch the fireworks from the roof top of that house.

Boston MA 2

We did a lot of other things in Boston, so here are some pictures of some more of the things we did.

The water behind me is where the Boston Tea Party happened.

This is by the statue of Ted Williams in front of Fenway Park.  The guy in the middle was a drunk homeless guy who yelled at me to hug him, and would not get out of the picture.  So we just took it with him in there.  Its not a good picture, but I thought it was pretty funny that he insisted on being in it.

We learned a lot about Paul Revere both on the Duck Tour on went on with my dad, witch was pretty cool, and from the crazy guy dressed up as a colonial man in the cemetary pictured below.  John Hancock and Samuel Adams were also in that cemetery.

Then we saw one of the best firework shows in the country, and we had a great view right on the Mass Ave bridge.  The picture doesn’t do the show justice at all, but if you saw fireworks on TV, you may have very likely seen the show that we saw live.

I took this picture to give you an idea of how many people were out on the streets on the 4th in Boston, and this is just one street.

Boston on the 4th of July

Tonight Nathanael, Dave and I set out to view the fireworks show from the Mass Ave. bridge.  We found out that we were not the only people with this idea, in fact, I think there may have been at least 10,000 people on that bridge!  It was completely packed from wall to wall!

The fire works show itself was amazing!  It lasted about half an hour and did not disappoint.  The show however was only half the fun.  Dave and I then fought with the crowds to get back to the subway, and then get on the subway train.  It was not easy and the packed those things to the brim!  It was crazy how many people were in there!

Look for video and pictures some time tomorrow!
