So yesterday, pretty much all we did is rest in a motel room in Des Moines. We were real lazy, but we needed it, since we hardly got any sleep the night before.
Ryan has been having a little bike trouble lately. If he leaves his bike for too long the batteries die, and then I have to jump it. That happened this morning when we were about to leave. Once he got it going though it worked for the rest of the day.
We are staying at a guy’s place from the church we interviewed here. His name is Kasey, and he is also a motorcyclist. He is even going to come with us on part of our ride tomorrow. We were stoked to have him let us stay here, he just heard about our trip, and was excited to help out.
We went to a worship night here at Bettendorf Christian Church, then got some dinner, and then headed to the local Ice Cream place, Whitey’s. That is a name that would probably not catch on in LA.
We are now back at Kasey’s place and just finished watching Gran Torino, it is thunderstorming out right now, and so we are happy to be inside a house, instead of out in our tents.

We set up camp last night in what seemed to be a very pleasent and peacful little campground. However shortly after we both went to bed, it started to Rain, really rain. And almost immediately the lightning came. It was so bright over my tent that the flashes of light would wake me up. And within seconds of the seeing the lightning through my closed eyelids, I would hear thunder. This repeated all night long from about midnight to 6am. That and the sound of rain hitting my tent like little rocks, kept Ryan and I from getting very much sleep. Around 4am one of the sides of my rain fly got loose from the stake, and flew up over the top of the tent. This was because my tent was in gravel, and so the stakes couldn’t go in very well. After being woken up from the rain landing directly onto my face, I had a quick idea. I got my Nalgene bottle, which was full of water, hooked it up to the end of my rain fly, and threw it away from the tent. This acted as an anchor and was good enough to keep me dry until morning. Ryan left as soon as the rain stopped, but I wanted to get some sleep so I stayed for an extra couple hours. We are going to get a motel room in Des Moines, and just sleep until tomorrow.

Pastor Bob Garrad of the First Presbyterian Church in Cheyenne WY, was one of the first pastors to sign up to be a part of this adventure. He was excited to be a part of our trip, and so we were glad to meet up with him as well. He was a very nice guy, and has been in the ministry a long time. Wyoming has some unique characteristics, for starters, there are only a half a million people in the whole state! That is the size of my home city.

We camped last night at a KOA in Gothenburg. We had just crossed the time zone, so it didn’t get dark till almost 10pm. We spent most of the evening fishing. I caught a bunch of blue gill, and one little bass. Ryan caught quite a few too. I also hooked a giant Carpe, about 20″, but after a lot of fighting he ran off with my hook.
Today we slowly made it the 230 miles to Omaha. Spent a lot of time at a Starbucks in Lincoln, got some dinner then hit the road. When we finally got to Omaha, on our way to the campsight Ryan rear ended me. Yep he hit me at a stop sign and knocked us both over. I was rather upset at first, and used some rather foul language, but after a couple minutes, and after I realized everything was OK, I laughed at it. It really was pretty funny.

I wanted to throw up a couple of photos of the people we have stayed with because we haven’t had good enough internet to do that lately. So here is Todd and Lilly who we stayed with in Longmont CO.

And this is Luke, Jaime, and the dog from Anchorman.

Yesterday we interviewed a church in Cheyenne WY, First Presbyterian Church of Cheyenne. Then afterwards we headed to Kimball NE to camp, the only problem was that it was raining from Cheyenne to Kimball so we got ourselves a cool cabin to stay in.
