We got to meet with the Vegas team from XXXchurch.com.  These people are doing some really cool things for the kingdom, and its not just about helping people get off of porn, which they do a great job at.  They are also ministering to people in the sex industry, and letting them know Jesus loves them no matter what.  Check out this short podcast, and if you want to get involved, you can learn more at stripchurch.com.

Beaver UT

Posted in Pre Trip on May 22nd, 2009 at 10:09 pm by Nathanael

So we woke up and hit the road pretty early, we were on our way out of Vegas around 9:30 this morning.  It was nice to hit the road before it got too hot.  We stopped at the AZ - NV border for some lunch and $.50 roulette.  We both lost.  From there we just headed north on the 15.  We looked up campgrounds up the road and found a KOA here in Beaver.  We were only 35 miles from the campsite, so we thought it would be a short and easy ride.  Well as soon as we hit the road we noticed there was definitiley some rain in front of us.  I wasn’t wearing my rain pants, and my jacket was all unzipped so I could stay cool.  The rain was short but pretty strong.  I got real wet real quick, and as soon as the rain came, the wind did too.  Fortunately it only lasted about 10 miles or so, and I was dry before we got to the campground.  We made our dinner and are just hanging out here now.  There is internet here so I think we will watch some Hulu, and hopefully be able to fall asleep early.

Parkcrest Christian Church

Well we came back home for a couple of days and it was great to meet up with some friends and family we have not seen in a while.  We were excited to do this podcast with Mike Goldsworthy from our home church Parkcrest.  Also joining us in the podcast is the HS pastor from the Heartwell campus, Rachel Oblon.  What is kind of funny about this interview, is that we have been across the country and back, and our recording equipment decided to stop working right when we went to do this interview.  That being said this was actually recorded on Mike’s computer, and so the sound quality is not as good as usual.  Not that our sound quality is anything special, its just that this is actually a bit worse than usual, but please listen despite the occassional peaking by my very loud voice, because Mike and Rachel both had some very cool things to say.

This is us with Rachel

Las Vegas NV

Posted in Pre Trip on May 21st, 2009 at 6:11 pm by Nathanael

Well we are back on the road, and back in Vegas.  I had no idea how much I missed home until I went back there.  I really do love my city, it has great weather, great people, and a million things to do.  Not to mention my family and friends are all there.  If I didnt get to see you while I was back, I am sorry.  In retrospect, I should have either scheduled much more time at home, or not come home at all.

Vegas is hot, and there is construction everywhere we go, which means traffic everywhere we go, but we got to meet with some cool people today.  We met with some people from xxxchurch.com, and from Central Christian Church.  Both places are doing great things here in Vegas.

For now we are going to relax and enjoy the pool.  Oh by the way this hotel, Palace Station is totally shady.  They sold us the room online at $25 a night, which is why we got these rooms, and then once we got here they told us there is an extra $14 a night service fee.  Why was this not included in the confirmed price?  It was totally a bait and switch, but at least I know I am never staying here again.  Other than that it has been cool to see what God is doing in the midst of Sin City.

Miles Today (yesterday for me): 280

Total Miles: ~8600

For the second leg of our journey I am going to update what’s going on in my perspective as well.  Especially on days like today where I (Ryan) rode separately from Nathanael.

I took off this morning from Long Beach to meet Nate here in Vegas.  My ride was going great until I had a run in with the CHP.  I got caught in a speeding crackdown.  There were 6 CHP officers in black and whites waiting on an overpass and they pulled over 6 cars including myself in this particular location.  I, unlike Nate got lucky.  I told the officer what I was doing and where I was going and he let me off the hook.  For the record I was going 85 in a 75, thats not too bad, is it?

As Nate said it is really hot here and I do not know how the native Las Vegas folk do it, I can’t stand the heat!

Long Beach and Earthquakes

Posted in Pre Trip on May 17th, 2009 at 10:35 pm by Nathanael

Well it has been pretty surreal being back in the Long beach, Lakewood area.  It feels like I am vacationing at home.  Funny thing is that there were all these tornado watches while we were in the south, but we never saw any.  However once we get into Southern California, we see a relatively big earthquake.  You can read about here.  Anyway, it is great to be back, even if the ground is moving violently.

Long Beach CA!!!

Ryan left Vegas a little earlier than me this morning.  He was anxious to get home, I was anxious to sleep.  However, once Ryan woke me up to leave, I couldn’t really go back to sleep.  Not his fault really, I just didn’t sleep real well.  It was a very warm ride home, but I made it, and I think Ryan made it too, but to be quite honest, I haven’t talked to him yet.

We are both excited about a week apart from each other.  We are still friends, but 24 hours a day with someone for 7 weeks straight is a bit much for any 2 people.  Anyway, we should still be updating this blog over the next couple of days with thoughts and some overdue videos.
