Depression

So the time has come, I am now a 24 year old guy who lives at his moms house… I haven’t lived at home for like 3 years, now I am expected to do chores and not walk around naked in the house…..this sucks. It is for the good of the trip, I have to keep telling myself this.

SKUNK!

Posted in Pre Trip on August 21st, 2008 at 6:08 pm by Ryan

This morning I was riding to work at the same time as I always do on the same roads I always take and got on the freeway at the same place when I saw what looked like a medium sized cat crossing the on-ramp. As I got closer I realized this was NO cat. Thick white stripe down the back, this was a skunk and I was closing in on it real fast. I tried to speed up to get in front of it but it was moving too fast. I had to go behind it and risk be sprayed! Thank God it didn’t spray me, that really would have ruined my day.

Dr. Phil Sucks

Posted in Pre Trip on August 20th, 2008 at 2:13 pm by Nathanael

So my mom (I love you mom) got suckered into bringing us all to the Dr. Phil show today. She was told that it was going to be his biggest show ever and that it was a give away show and that we would be in the audience. Well that didn’t happen, Hollywood is full of a bunch of evil liars, and I pretty much hate that city. The giveaways were a Dr. Phil T-shirt, and a water bottle. Lame, I know. What we were really there for was to spread us all around Paramount studios, and cheer for the people running by competing in some kind of weight loss challenge.

Now there is a cool part to this story. My Brother and I agreed that Dr. Phil is lame, and that we hate him and his shady production, so we decided to see how much we could get away with, and surprisingly it was quite a bit. They wanted us all to just stay sitting on this fake curb in their “New York” outdoor studio for 4 hours. That got boring real quick, especially with all these cool buildings around. So my brother and I started sneaking into these fake buildings, and seeing what was inside. I got into 3 different ones, and my brother got into 2. There wasn’t much in them but wires, and lights.  The last one we snuck into was (for those Seinfeld fans) the building that Jerry has to throw the stolen marble rye up to George.   We were able to get to the roof, and so I took some pictures:

(You can see the Hollywood sign just barely in the distance)

(The front of the building that we got to the roof of)

(This is a fake sky that they have right next to a parking lot that can fill up with water so it can look like an ocean or lake)

And that was my wonderfully long day at the Dr. Phil show. Oh and by the way, I had to leave before the people even ran through, so I never even saw any filming, but Christian Slater did walk by on his way to the set of My Own Worst Enemy, so that was pretty cool.

If you are ever in a studio like that, I recommend just walking around like you are supposed to be there, you can get away with a lot more than you would think.

Where to watch TV

Posted in Pre Trip on August 19th, 2008 at 2:24 pm by Nathanael

As I have said before I sold my TV in an effort to live simpler.  However there are a couple of shows that I have a vested interest in still, and so I am on the lookout for people who are already watching these shows.  The shows that I really do not want to miss are the following.

  • The Office
  • Prison Break
  • Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
  • Survivor
  • Lost (whenever it finally comes back on)

I would of course like to be invited over to someone’s house to watch these shows, so if you already watch one of these shows on a consistent basis, please let me know so that I can enjoy their glory with you.  If I get multiple offers for places to watch my favorite shows, I will of course choose the house with the biggest Hi-Def television, and of course DVR is prefered to the ancient art of watching television with actual commercials.  Please leave me a comment letting me know what shows you watch, and whether or not I could join you.  I am really going to miss the Lost nights at my house, those were some pretty intense television experiences.

So a lot of the staff at Parkcrest ride motorcycles/scooters.  This morning everyone that has one, rode it to our staff meeting.

A Motorcycle Trick

Posted in Pre Trip on August 15th, 2008 at 1:11 pm by Nathanael

Yesterday, Scott Schlatter and I decided to ride to the beach for The Burn Experiment.  On the way there Scott let go of his bike with both hands, and then jokingly said, “Thats the only motorcycle trick I know.”  Well right after that my bike died, and so I had to pull over, while Scott raced away without knowing what happened.  My bike was out of gas, and I was already on the reserve tank.  Stupid move I know, but the real dilemma was what do I do now.  Well I used my iphone to see what the closest gas station was, and it was not close.  At least not within pushing distance.  Then Scott called me, and I said “I know a motorcycle trick too, running out of gas.”

So he came back, and we did the only thing I could think of.  I got on the back of his Honda Interceptor, which doesn’t have much room back there, and held on to Scott as we rode to a gas station.  The funniest part about this is that I am 210 pounds, and I think Scott is like 120.  So here I am way bigger than him, sitting on the back of his bike.  People were definitely staring, at least it wouldn’t have looked so weird if Scott was behind me, but I wasn’t familiar enough with his bike to do that.  So I bought a big thing of water, drank some and then dumped the rest.  Filled it up with gas, hopped back on his bike and took it to mine.

It was all a very emasculating event, and I hope I am never that stupid again.
